WHS Halo’s Compact Survey puts data in your pocket

WHS Halo has launched an impressive frame-surveying software application package – called WHS Compact Survey – designed for handheld computers, running Microsoft PocketPC, and other Windows-based mobile devices. Largely intuitive in use, WHS Compact Survey requires little training, and provides surveyors with improvements in time efficiency, productivity and accuracy on site.

Designed in-house by WHS Halo’s own IT team; the convenient, accessible system is simply installed following receipt of an email. It avoids the sometimes difficult operation of such devices for entering data efficiently, and is designed so that simple finger buttons can be used to input much of the information required. Furthermore, any text which might be needed can be keyed in advance or held in memory for subsequent usage.

A clear, easy-to-understand start screen allows recall of the initial job list. This can be pre-programmed, so that the relevant file can be quickly and easily accessed upon arrival on site. Within any given job, frame numbers are automatically generated for each new frame; while height and width figures can be easily entered using the numeric finger pad. When both of these figures are entered, a 'theoretical' diagonal measurement is also displayed, allowing the surveyor to quickly double-check the entered figures. Styles can be selected by cycling through the available choice – using the directional buttons – until the desired frame is reached.

The surveyor may add their own comments during the course of the survey; or select a comment – via a drop-down menu – from a list they may have pre-defined; and, similarly, multiple choices can be added to each frame surveyed.
Pictures can also be taken with the device camera, which can then be attached to specific frame – obviating the need for reams of comments, and further increasing time efficiencies on site.

At any time the user can also view a table of all surveyed jobs. This is useful for checking that all information has been entered or for allowing entry of details into another application, such as WHS Halo’s own exclusive door and window production package, Panacea. The application also is available on a PC, notebook and touch screen laptop, and synchronises automatically when the Pocket PC is connected to its bigger brother. Panacea information can be downloaded to the Compact Survey application, automating frame style entry and pre-filling most of the fields for even easier use when on site. Depending upon device capabilities, emailing survey files directly from the Pocket PC is also possible enabling office personnel to import the data back into Panacea.

WHS Compact Survey is a convenient and easy-to-use, yet powerful, surveying application for handheld computers that provides surveyors with increased accuracy, productivity and time-savings on site – ultimately leading to improved customer satisfaction and business performance.
