REFLEX GLASS CHOSEN FOR HIGH PROFILE HOTEL ROOF REBUILD

The special properties of reflex glass were highlighted as the main reason for its use in the roof structure of phase one of Orsett Hall’s rebuilding programme, the new 350 seater function suite, known as the Grahame Thomas Pavilion.

ORIGINAL HOTEL DESTROYED BY FIRE

Tragically, The Orsett Hall Hotel in Essex was destroyed by fire in May 2007. Orsett Hall was originally a truly magnificent stately home built in the sixteenth century and after the war, the home played host to many members of the Royal family. It remained a private residence until 1977, was later sold and converted into a hotel. The fire completely gutted the entire building. Its current owners, Steve and Lynn Haynes, have committed to rebuilding the hotel entirely in keeping with the original design (see www.orsetthall.co.uk).

UNIQUE GLASS FEATURES

When considering the design of the Grahame Thomas pavilion, the hotel consulted with window, door and glass fabricators Daybreak Windows of Thurrock. The discussion centred on a special roof glass with a combination of features. High on the list was a roof which let in a large amount of natural light but which kept in a high level of heat in the winter. They also wanted to ensure that sunlight did not cause the premium quality fabrics used in the furnishings to fade, or for the pavilion to over-heat in the summer. Reflex’s unique glass has a higher level of UV and IR light reflectance than any other glass and it’s these unique properties which enabled the roof to meet the owner’s requirements. As a result, air-conditioning costs will be reduced in the summer and heating bills cut in the winter.

EASY CLEAN

In addition, the hotel wanted a low-maintenance roof. Reflex has a special easy-clean coating, known as a stain guard, permanently bonded to surface one. This reduces cleaning by up to 70% and the stain guard is guaranteed for 10 years.

20 YEAR UNIT GUARANTEE

That’s not all, condensation on surface four (the surface facing the room) is completely eliminated due to the use of state-of-the-art ‘warm edge’ spacer bars and argon gas within the double glazed unit. Furthermore, reflex are one of the only UK companies to offer a 20 year guarantee against unit seal failure on all its reflex glass units.

“IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN”

The installation company, Daybreak Windows specialise in commercial window and roofing work throughout the south-east of England and has an excellent reputation for the quality of its installations. Daybreak’s owner Mr. Clive Broad said ‘We were consulted by the hotel and we felt that the best glass to recommend to achieve all that they wanted was reflex. In our opinion it’s in a league of its own and it was the only material we could put forward to meet all of the hotel’s requirements.’

Reflex supplies its glass in all standard thicknesses to suit roof, window and door glazing systems and the glass is available in blue tint or clear options.

Reflex products are only available through their network of authorised distributors. For more information, contact reflex glass on 0116 269 6297 or visit their website at www.reflexglass.co.uk.
