IGU MANUFACTURER HOPES TO SMASH TEST TARGETS

Established Nottinghamshire Insulating Glass Unit (IGU) manufacturer, The Smashing Glass Company, is committed to passing BS EN 1279 Part 3 when it submits its Bostik sealed units for testing.

Smashing Glass, based in Old Basford, Nottinghamshire, has been using Bostik products for ten years and, as managing director Darrell Hadfield explains, the company relies on Bostik sealants to produce quality units: “We continue to work with Bostik as we know the company’s sealants will allow us to produce units of the highest standard.

“In the decade that we have been using Bostik sealants, we have found the company’s technical support very helpful. It is reassuring to know that help and expert assistance is readily available if ever we should need it.”

Smashing Glass has recently invested in a brand new semi-automated production line, which uses two Bostik sealants as part of the production process. A polyisobutylene (PIB) primary sealant, Bostik 2000, is applied automatically to improve handling of the unit prior to Bostik P5125 hot melt butyl edge sealant being applied. The company is now producing up to 2,000 units per week.

Darrell continues: “We always strive to be at the forefront of the industry and ensure our products demonstrate proven results. For example, we passed EN 1279 Part 2 in the first month of its formation and operate to ISO 9001:2000 management systems. In addition we offer argon and krypton gas filled units that include warm edge products, which results in us being able to offer sealed units that perform to the highest Window Energy Ratings. Gaining Part 3 accreditation for the gas retention will allow us to prove what we already know – that all our units are of the highest possible quality.”

Operating nationwide, Smashing Glass products can be seen as far away as the Isle of Man, although the majority of units are installed in the East Midlands, where its distinctive orange delivery vans are instantly recognisable. The company supplies products both to trade customers and direct to private clients as well as to Nottinghamshire Council and Derby City Council.

Darrell agrees with Bostik’s approach to customer care and ensures current customers are well looked after at the same time as developing new business. “It is more important than ever to nurture ongoing relationships given the current economic climate and the impact that the ‘credit crunch’ is having on the industry” he says.

With over 120 years experience in the sealants and adhesives industry, Bostik understands the market place, the needs of its customers, and in turn their customers, and as one of the longest established companies in the IGU industry, is committed to continuing to assist customers in their development and growth.

As well as Bostik 3000 two part polysulfide sealant, and Bostik 2000 polyisobutylene primary sealant, Bostik also offers a range of hot melt products for both robotic and manual application. The range comprises the market-leading Bostik P5125, Evo-Stik Hiflo and Bostik 5000 hot melt perimeter sealants.

Concluding, Bostik’s field sales manager, Geoff Jackson, says: “We pride ourselves on our products, our technical service, our testing facilities and our commitment to customer care. When you deal with Bostik you get more than a product – we supply a whole package to support your business needs.”
