BOSTIK POLYSULFIDE SEALS PART 3 COMPLIANCE

A Great Yarmouth insulating glass unit (IGU) manufacturer has passed BS EN 1279 Part 3 with a Bostik polysulfide product it has trusted for over 25 years.

Prior to creating its own PVCu manufacturing facility in 1994, RBD Builders (Norfolk) had already established itself as a quality timber frame manufacturer and was working alongside an external supplier of PVCu frames.

When the company’s sealed unit supplier was bought out and stopped distributing to the area, the company took the decision to establish RBD Glass as managing director, Ian Driver, explains: “When we set up RBD Glass, we turned to our contacts in the industry, including our former IGU supplier, to recommend which component suppliers to work with. Bostik came very highly recommended, so we decided to use the same sealant our suppliers had used as we trusted it and knew it would meet our needs.

“Bostik 3000 polysulfide’s excellent application characteristics make it very easy for our workforce to use, and has always resulted in high quality finished units.”

Manufacturing over 1,000 units per week, Ian feels that it is important to keep up to date with industry standards and trends. He continues: “We submitted our units for Part 3 gas testing and were delighted when they passed first time. Although we don’t market the accreditation to our customers, they understand that our units are manufactured to a high standard and are quality products.”

RBD Glass uses Bostik 2000 polyisobutylene (PIB) primary sealant and Bostik 3000 polysulfide secondary sealant. The result is a flexible, resilient seal with a low moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) and low gas permeability.

In addition to its polysulfide secondary sealant and PIB primary sealant, Bostik also offers a complete hot melt product range suitable for both robotic and manual applications including the market-leading Bostik P5125, Evo-Stik Hiflo and Bostik 5000 hot melt perimeter sealants. All products are able to produce sealed units capable of achieving BS EN 1279.
