UAP’s Nepal football punch up on TV!
As many readers will be aware from coverage in the trade magazines, UAP has arranged to support a UK charity build five schools in remote parts of Nepal.
The second UAP Community School that was built had (somewhat unusually for that mountainous country) a bit of fairly level ground nearby that someone thought would make a halfway decent football pitch that could be used to celebrate the opening of the school.
The idea took root and soon grew into something of a major event with players taken from local citizens, members of the charity, the school’s building labourers, and various UAP representatives and interested parties, including Brian Kilcline, famed as Captain of the Coventry City FA Cup winning team, and who was rather taken with the whole concept.
Word got around, and the township’s leaders and other exalted dignitaries came along to enjoy the fun and to be seen in the video of the affair.
Unfortunately, it seems that even a country as remote as Nepal is no stranger to football hooliganism: tempers got frayed and a fight started.
Somehow, the video of the event got into the hands of TV’s Channel 4 who decided to feature highlights of the match in their regular look at world football Goalissimo!
Goalissimo! is a one-hour mix of football action, news and views from around the football world and will be shown on the 19th and 20th of September.
Not every PR idea turns into television footage, but when it does, be sure to tune in!
