WE’VE FINISHED!
Following the best part of two years planning, not to mention the amount of training undertaken, the Ride 4 Hope Cycling Team from GM Fundraising have now completed their epic 17-day journey across the USA in aid of Hope House Children’s Hospices and supported by headline sponsor Promac Group.
During the cycling adventure the team were faced with temperatures in the low-mid 40’s (107 f in old money) in the Arizona desert, an 11,000 foot peak in the Rocky Mountains, the winds of the mid-West, The Appalachians and high humidity in the East following hurricane Katrina. Other experiences included a broken support vehicle on Day 1 which we could not replace for 4 days, two bike crashes, several mechanicals, over 30 punctures, wild prairie dogs, wild deer and a number of snakes some which were run over by the support vehicles and a few even lay basking on the road late in the day hoping for a bit of fundraiser flesh!
A number of e-newsletters have already been sent out along the way and a Facebook page has also been set up for GM Fundraising with a number of photos and video clips from the ride including a few funny ones too. The final sum raised will be around the £70,000 mark but donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/ride4hope, so if you haven’t made a donation yet you can still do your bit for such a worthy cause.
The emphasis on the whole event was about the team, but it’s appropriate to give the final word to Gary Morton: “Thanks go to all those involved including riders, support crew, family, friends and those donating to the cause. I must also mention the fact that the whole event wouldn’t have gone ahead without the very generous support of Promac Group as headline sponsor. I can honestly say it was a gruelling physical challenge for all of us and I’ve also got road rash as an added reminder with the evidence posted on Facebook!”
