CARDIFF CLASS
K2 customer, Cardiff Glass Ltd has recently completed a stunning glazed garden room extension to the Manor House Hotel & Restaurant in Penarth on the outskirts of Cardiff.
The original building dates back to the 18th century and the glazed extension has been added to provide much needed extra space to cope with the demands of a busy and expanding hotel. This striking addition to the hotel was individually designed with the proprietor and since its completion, has already played host as a fully functional dining room and is now perfectly equipped to handle the forthcoming weddings, banquets and all other future functions. The additional space has proved a real winner with all the guests, and its new owner is delighted with the response from his clients.
The glazed extension is a 13.5m x 7.5 gable roof design, glazed in K2’s own blue tinted Celsius performance glass which helps keep it cool in summer and to retain the warmth in winter. K2 Architectural Systems was heavily involved in the project which required an aluminium structural portal frame on to which K2’s new aluminium roof system was installed. The design also necessitated an elevated 2.9m eaves height.
Cardiff Glass was appointed as the main contractor and as such were responsible for the entire project from the initial foundations right through to the finished floor in mosaic tiling. Other elements of the work included the air conditioning/heating, electrical works and all internal finishes. Structural Calculations for many components including the portal frame were provided by K2 Architectural Systems. Cardiff Glass have been a long standing advocate of K2’s conservatory roof and specialist glass products and is a valued customer of leading K2 fabricator, Gloucester-based CBK Roof Systems.
Shaun Armstrong, sales director for Cardiff Glass commented: “We’ve built a great reputation in South Wales for the more bespoke, larger span conservatories and glass projects such as this latest installation. This will add to our steadily growing portfolio of unique and innovative achievements.”
He continues: “This is a specialist area, and one in which we feel we have developed the necessary expertise to enable us to excel in. We’re actively looking for more portal work given our capabilities and the vital partnership with both K2 and CBK Roof Systems. This provides us with the specialist technical expertise necessary to carry out many more of these individually designed and challenging projects such as the Manor House Hotel and Restaurant.”
